FAQs

How do I register?

Registering on Wuthering Ink - The Author's Portal will allow you to submit your titles. To register, click the Register link present on the top of the page. Enter your details on the registration page, and when registered you will receive email confirmation of your username and password.

How do I login?

LOGGING IN
Important: logging in for authors is a two-step process.
Step 1: You log in to the author store, the same as your readers must. If you haven’t got/don’t know/ have forgotten your password, send away for a new one via ‘‘forgot password’’. It’s important for you to know that it will come from ‘‘bookstorehelp’’ and looks like an ordinary email.
Step 2: Then you log in to the authorform, as only our authors may do. The password that you’re sent for the authorstore won’t work for the authorform (unless you set it up that way- explanation coming). If you haven’t got/don’t know/have forgotten your password, send away for a new one via the ‘‘forgot password’’ but on the authorform page. It’s important to know that it will come from ‘‘conversions’’ and will be on a beige background. It’s a computer-generated password, that’ll be difficult to remember.
You can change either password - you can give yourself the same password for both authorstore and authorform:

What do I do if I've forgotten my password?

If you have forgotten your password, simply click on the ‘Forgot your Password?’ link on the Login page and you will be prompted to enter your email address. You must use the email address that you have registered with. If we recognize your email address, we will resend your username and password to you.

How to change our password/passwords

For the Authorstore- go to ‘‘My Account’’, ‘‘Edit Profile’’, and put in a password you’ll remember. For the Authorform: go to your name in blue at the top corner, go to ‘‘Change Password’’. Put in a password you’ll remember, or the same password as in authorstore. When you’ve registered successfully, you’ll be taken back to the Home page. You’ll be taken to the ‘‘Author Dashboard’’ page. Here you have to select what services you want, such as ‘‘I want it offered for conversion’’. Then click ‘‘Go’’.

What will I see once I've logged in?

Once you have logged in, you will get the Author Dashboard page and you will have access to the following additional functions:

  • Selection of services for book submission -
    • Do you want your book to be converted to a digital book?
    • Do you want your book to be offered for sale?
    • Do you want both?
    • Promotion
  • Edit/View/Print - Existing titles
  • View Status of the existing titles
  • View Payment status
  • View creation date of a title
How to submit a book or file?

In the following pages, we explain how to fill in the automated Authorform so that you can submit your book or file. There will be some new concepts for the traditionally published author.

You must register before you log in. And if you haven't logged in for a while, check that your details are still remembered by the Registration page.

  • Case 1 - I WANT MY BOOK TO BE CONVERTED TO A DIGITAL BOOK
Steps which will be followed during book submission -

STEP 1: Book Details page -
Clicking ‘‘Go’’ button will take you to the ‘‘Book Details’’ page. On this page, please fill in all the mandatory fields before clicking ‘‘Save and Continue’’ button. This will take you to the ‘‘Your Territory page’’ page.
Note - If want to add a group click on ‘‘’’ If you want to delete a group click on ‘‘’’.

STEP 2: Your Territory page -
If your book is with other publishers, they may have rights over particular territories. Please check with them or your agent/lawyer.

Use this page to make a choice of where you want to sell your books -
    1. World Wide or
    2. In selected countries
    3. I don't want my book to be sold. I only want conversion services.
Click on ‘‘Save and Continue’’ to move to ‘‘ArtWork’’ page.

    STEP 3: Artwork page -

If you want to upload your own cover, use the button

If you require a generic cover, describe your work in a few words, and nominate favoured colours.

If you Want To send it later then choose the 3rd option with your instruction.

Once you are finished click ‘‘Save and Continue’’ to move to ‘‘Front Matter’’ page.

    STEP 4: Front Matter page-

You must include an imprint (copyright) page. In a traditional book, this appears on the back of the title page. You need to create your new imprint page. Ask your lawyer, or use this template:

    Copyright: Your name
    Current year:

The right of { add your name} to be identified as the author of this book has been Submitted by me in accordance with The Copyright Amendment (Moral Rights) 2000. Published by {your invented publishing name, and current year} First published by (your first conventional publisher} in .... Printed in India by ADI/MPS in {current year}.

This work is copyright, all rights reserved. By making the specified payment you have been granted the non-exclusive, non-transferable rights to access and read the text of this e-book on screen. No part of this text may be reproduced, transmitted, downloaded or stored in or introduced into any information storage and retrieval system in any form or by any means whether electronic or mechanical, now known or hereinafter invented without the express written permission of (Your invented publishing name).

    ISBN
    Your biography
    Your website

NOTE: If you’re sending a book in a bag, post it along with your imprint/copyright and title page when you send the book.

Note - The information you give us in this section will form the front matter of your e-book. Fill in all the details and then click ‘‘Save and Continue’’ to move to ‘‘Pricing Information’’ page.

STEP 5: What the reader pays -

On this page, enter the price for customers buying your book.
    Note -

In general, eBooks are much cheaper for customers than traditional books (see prices charged by our founding authors). On the other hand, with Wuthering Ink, because you become with us an author/publisher, you'll earn up to 80% royalties, rather than the tiny percentages (about 10%) that you received in traditional publishing.

STEP 6: Digital Rights Management Page-

Use this page to set DRM for your book. DRM means ‘digital rights management’- it restricts usage of the book and prevents sharing. It doesn't allow your readers to enjoy quite the same level of freedom they have with most digital media they buy.
    Note -

You will need DRM, if your publisher has specified that you must have it. We recommend you do your own research about DRM if you are concerned.

Click ‘‘Save and Continue’’ to move to ‘‘Digitization/Book Creation’’ page.

    STEP 7: Digitization/Book Creation Page -

On this page you have to answer the following questions -

    1. How will you send us your book?
      • I will post it in a bag/box.
        • Book Type
          • Is it a photocopy?
          • Is it the actual book?
      • I will upload a digital copy

      • Note -
        • In case the digital copy which you are uploading has images, then do not forget to place a checkmark in the checkbox which states - Are you including images?
        • In case you have any instructions for the digitizers on the books you are submitting,(including many scattered images, as in children's books), please fill in the instructions in the text box.
    2. Enter ISBN.

Your new book needs its own new ISBN.
      What is an ISBN?
Every book has its own unique number, an International Standard Book Number. It’s a way of making your book identifiable internationally by libraries, bookstores etc. If you have a traditionally published book, you’ll see a number, its ISBN, on the imprint page. In the past, traditional publishers would’ve provided one for your book.
You may already have a new ISBN. If you do, please manually enter it into the text box.
If you haven’t, you can easily procure one yourself from the suppliers. In Australia, it’s Thorpe Bowker, (https://www.myidentifiers.com.au/isbn/main )
However, if you haven’t got an ISBN or don't want to do this for yourself, we can provide you with a system generated ISBN, at a very reasonable price - for far, far less than you’d pay to purchase one individual ISBN.
For this, just click on the ISBN button, & your new ISBN will appear in the text box.

If it so happens that a new ISBN is temporarily not available, an error message will appear. It will say: ‘‘No ISBN is available with the system’’. In this case, you’ll have to procure one yourself from the suppliers.

So, there are two ways to enter an ISBN:

      • Manually - You can manually enter the ISBN
      • Using Button - You can simply click on the ISBN button and a system generated ISBN will fill the ISBN text box

Note- System generated ISBN is a paid service.

What digital publication do you want?

This is the moment when you have to become someone working an old-fashioned printing press, and consider the needs of your books' text, its layout and its most relevant format.

    • EPUB: This is short for Electronic Publication. If your book has text that ‘‘flows’’ uninterrupted from page to page, with no scattered images, graphs, columns etc, this is for you. Novels and scholarly works without such interruptions are fine, chapter divisions are fine, text with blocks of illustrations or photographs (such as some travel books) are fine. Most engineering, scientific and medical educational books are fine, with some limitations. Because of the work required of us, of all the Format choices, this option is the least expensive. You can also include in your text audio, video and interactivities, such as when you ask your reader participate, eg ‘‘Fill in the missing word’’.

It supports audio, video and interactivities using JavaScript. An EPUB file can optionally contain DRM as an additional layer, but DRM is not required by the specifications. In addition, the specification does not name any particular DRM system to use, so at the moment, you can choose whatever DRM scheme you wish. However, future versions of EPUB (specifically OCF) may specify a particular format for DRM.

    • Target Devices: ADE (PC Version), iPad, iPod, Nook and other Android devices.
    • FIXED LAYOUT: This is for a book in which the layout needs to be preserved exactly. If your book has scattered images, graphs etc that must be placed with specific text, then this is for you. It's particularly suitable for computer programming books, children's picture books, or poetry, where the layout of the line is important. This is exacting work for us, similar to typesetting from scratch. In this format, you can retain the layout of your PDF.
    • Target Devices: iPad and Readium Reader.
    • AER: (coming soon) This is not really a format but the online version of PDF. It's fixed format as well, so we typeset your text from scratch. However in this format, you can include web services. For example, if in a scholarly work, you need to refer in foot notes or end notes to articles on the web which if you want the reader to be able to click through to, then this is for you. We reduce the file size so that uploading and downloading can happen easily.
The AER file extension is associated with the Adobe Atmosphere.

The fastest and easiest way to open your AER file is to double-click it. This allows the intelligence of Windows to decide the correct software application to open your AER file. If your AER file doesn't open, it is highly likely that you do not have the correct software application installed on your PC to view or edit AER file extensions.

    • Target Devices: Adobe Reader, ADE
    • PRC Flowable: (coming soon) This means Product Representation Compact. PRC Flowable is for a book as described in 1, but with 3D image requirements. PRC Flowable is a 3D file format that can be used to embed 3D data in a PDF file. This highly compressed format facilitates the storage of different representations of a 3D model. You might require this if you wanted in your book to depict three dimensional architectural features, or, in science, if you wanted to show the working interior of a molecule, or in environmental science, if you wished to show what happens in glaciers as they melt. The images can be rotated, so that, for instance, a molecule can be examined from all directions. Your book can retain a visual representation that consists of polygons (a tessellation), or the model's exact geometry (B-rep data). Varying levels of compression, depending on the complexity of the images, can be applied to the 3D CAD data when it is converted to the PRC format using the 3D PDF Converter plugin for Acrobat.
    • Target devices: Both this and the PRC format below can only be read on Kindle devices, where it can be read directly, also. Kindle Fire, Kindle Reader and Amazon kindle, depending on the complexity. Its structure files are also used by the Mobipocket e-book-reader.
      • PRC Fixed Format: (coming soon)Again, this can only be read on Kindle. If your book is like 2, needing an exact match of your layout, but you also require a popup feature to read the text, if for instance you have quotations in small print, this is for you. There will, however, be no zoom facility.
      • Target Devices: Kindle Fire, Kindle Reader
